Chaquis Maliq Will Perform Again @ This Year's Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest

The Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest debuted in the nation's capital in 2008 with a performance roster that featured Chaquis Maliq. Other artists, included soul songstress Afi Soul, hip-hop all-stars Mello-D & the Rados, swagger king Cool Cee Brown and national recording artist Rogiers. Chaquis was featured on the festival's CD compilation as well.

The all-day outdoors music festival will take place in Washington DC on Saturday, July 25, 2009 in Marvin Gaye Park.

"This year's musical roster is going to be even hotter than before," says festival director, Maceo Thomas.

Last year's media sponsors included The Washington Informer , www.Sojournals.com and Capital Community News.

Thank God for the ones who put their life on the line for us to see this day, where change is now a reality and not a dream. History has been made and will never be forgotten. Words cannot express the gratitude that we now have as a race, culture, and nation. Liberty rings in our hearts because of the Civil Rights Leaders, Civil Rights Protesters,The NAACP, The Rainbow Coalition, and the Future. Keep hope alive because the fight isn't over. I know that Dr. King is looking down from heaven being proud of his dream not being deferred. God Bless!

Lately we have been flooded by T-Pain's new version of the Roger and Zapp vocals. Then came The Dream with his "Eh Eh Eh Eh" kid like vocals and superb writing skills. There has to be a following and space for the new guy in town. Next maybe this writer from the "Bay" or should I say, "The Yay Area." No, he's not trying be "Hyphy" and all of that, but DaShawn Boxdell is indeed a Pop and R & B Writer. Starting his own music publishing in 2001 called, Writer's Mentality Music Publishing, LLC. Now, with ear worm hooks and verses you can relate to, Boxdell's got all the urban pop stars blowing up his phone lines. As of now, he has Chris Breezy, Cassie, Jordan Sparks and J. Holiday in line waiting to get a dose of Boxdell. So don't be surprised in 2009 when his sound floods your radio.

Chaquis Maliq Performs A Capella @ Canto Por La Paz/Concert for Peace!!!!

Chaquis Maliq closes Canto Por La Paz/Concert For Peace with A capella performance. I guess you are wondering why. Well there were some technical difficulties with the sound throughout the entire show. So a few performances were not on time with the schedule. Chaquis' time slot was 5:40 PM, and the concert was set to be finished at 6:00 PM on the dot! By the time 5:40 PM came, there was an El Salvadorian band performing and when 6:00 PM rolled around, the concert was shut down! The coordinator of the concert was furious and would not let Chaquis Maliq depart without performing.

Someone from the crowd yelled,"She can sing acoustic!" Well it was a wrap after that. The coordinator had everyone gather around to hear Chaquis Maliq sing her melodic melodies of "You Make My Day." Chaquis thought she could get away by singing just one song?! Ha! The crowd begged for one more song and Chaquis closed out with "Another Chance."

Chaquis Maliq is Going to Move and Groove You

Chaquis is definitely an "Old Soul". On her Demo/EP "The Demonstration Vol. I, she definitely gives you some Old- Soul with some Nu-Soul. Ms. Maliq starts of by introducing you with a 70's Groove and then just hits you with some straight heavy drums and horns, and gives you that Areatha Franklin and Sara Vaughn rawness; that soul used to give to it's people back in the day! Then she just smooths you out with some happy feelings of being with that special someone, like Patrice Rushen. But it doesn't stop there. Chaquis puts you in neo-soul-jazz groove and give you that Erykah Badu and Kem all at once. Not only does she keep you in the zone, she'll make you wanna get others into the zone and bless you with her laid back hip hop rhythms and get emotional with you.

"Women Who Jam" Philly

On August 27, 2008, Chaquis Maliq competed in the "Women Who Jam" Showcase, at the Neo-Soul Capital, Philadelphia, PA. Chaquis won the vocal competition not knowing she would be competing to win the chance to perform in New York City in front of the Board for the National Association for Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME).
